		Clanton was born in Baton Rouge, LA on September 2, 1940.
		Clanton joined forces with a rival band leader, pianist Dick Holler (later the author of "Abraham, Martin and John"), in The Rockets, a combo that was hot enough to justify a 1957 trip to New Orleans and a visit to Cosimo Matassa, who owned the only recording studio in the city.
		Clanton became a disc jockey in the 1970s and performed in an oldies revue of his own.

		Between 1958 and 1962, he had several national hits such as "Go Jimmy Go," "Another Sleepless Night," written by Neil Sedaka and "Venus in Blue Jeans." Clanton even continued to release hits after he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and served for two years.
		In the 1990's Clanton was still performing in popular oldies shows which hearkened audiences back to a simpler time in America.
