It ran for two series, of six and seven episodes, in 1988 and 1990.
The series was located in the British town of Chelmsford in AD 123, and concerned the power struggle between Roman governor Aulus Paulinus (Jimmy Mulville) and the British chieftain, Badvoc (Rory McGrath).

They quoted Jimmy Mulville, the joint managing director of Hat Trick Productions, as saying: "These stories that we were approaching Stephen Fry or Clive Anderson were complete fiction" - which is not quite the same as ruling them out.
Mulville also said only one of the six stand-in guests who had presented the show up to the time of the interview even be considered for the post - presumably Anne Robinson.
The Guardian did not ask Mulville how long was the contract with the BBC had to run.

One puzzle was there was one person in the collage they put outside the Store I didn't recognise and another is whether it was Jimmy Mulville drinking wine in the audience in the clip of Alexi Sayle at the Comic Strip.
I think it was Keith Allen but I'm not 100% sure.
And yes, it was Jimmy Mulville but I didn't recognise anyone else.
