  Jimmy Sommerville
Jimmy and Richard's material was a mixture of good old fashioned "gay" disco and more bluesy, acoustic, political and social comment songs, both of which made a strong impact in the Thatcherite 80's and perfectly reflected the two sides of Jimmy's personality as well.
Jimmy was involved in a project called "Respect" and the proceeds of a single and a free festival, held in July 1996, were donated to the Unite Against Racism campaign.
Jimmy has recently released new remixes of 'Why' (Almighty Mixes) on Almighty Records in the UK and is in the process of writing new material for his next album.

Jimmy Somerville, formerly of Bronski Beat and the Communards, has been forging his own subtle solo career for over a decade now.
An openly gay artist himself, Jimmy has hung in there as best as he can, considering the arms length approach the music industry is taking with other music stars in the same situation.
Stating in his liner notes that the Wyoming-based incident itself was indeed a hate-crime, Jimmy obviously has no problem in seeming contrary to what the state court has attempted to persuade the public to believe.

Jimmy Somerville - Biography - AOL Music
Singer Jimmy Somerville lent his soaring falsetto to two of the Eighties' premier dance-pop outfits, Bronski Beat and the Communards, before embarking on a solo career.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland on June 22, 1961, he co-founded Bronski Beat in 1984; from the band's debut single "Smalltown Boy" onward, Somerville's songs dealt openly with his own homosexuality, a recurring theme which met with surprisingly little commercial resistance as both the record and its follow-up, "Why?," cracked the UK Top Ten.
A reggaefied rendition of the Bee Gees chestnut "To Love Somebody" was next, but in the wake of 1991's "Run from Love" Somerville was absent from recording for several years, finally returning in 1995 with the LP Dare to Love.

Dare to Love - Jimmy Somerville - Similar Albums
Since the death of Klaus Nomi, Somerville has reigned as the best white falsetto singer in pop music; his soaring voice propelled Bronski Beat and the Communards to respectable chart positions (especially in Europe) during the 1980s, and his return to musical activity finds him in excellent form.
Somerville's lyrics have always been unabashedly homoerotic, and while most of the tunes on this disc are given over to sweet, wide-eyed declarations of romantic devotion, there's a rather nasty leather-boy undercurrent to "Alright" that risks turning off listeners of any sexual orientation ("The blood had dried by the morning light"?
Eww.) More disturbingly, the title track appears to be a celebration of statutory rape: the protagonist has been imprisoned "because he dared to love" (the implication being "because he dared to love a man"), but the lyrics make it clear that he's in jail more specifically because he dared to love a minor.

Somerville's sexually ambiguous falsetto is as effective as ever, especially on "Safe," which appears here in two mixes by Todd Terry (best known for injecting a serious drum-'n'-bass charge into Everything but the Girl's "Missing").
And, as always, these deceptively upbeat songs hide some pointed lyrical content: "Something to Live For" celebrates the hope given to AIDS patients by combination drug therapy, while "Lay Down" is a paean to oral sex.

By 2004, when a new generation of bands were taking Bronski Beat's take on skeletal dance-pop as one of their primary influences, Somerville's Home Again sounds both entirely in keeping with his earlier work and utterly contemporary.
Songs like "Under a Lover's Sky" and the lovely ballad title track wouldn't sound out of place on a circa-1984 dancefloor musically, but Somerville's voice is a richer and more complex instrument decades on.
