 Jindo
Some maintain that the Jindo, named for Korea's Jindo Island ("Jin" is the name of the island, "Jindo" means Jin Island, "Jindo gae" means the dog of Jin Island), where the breed is commonly found, were the dogs that accompanied Mongol Warriors who invaded Korea during the 13th Century.
As a breed, the Jindo Dog is somewhat unique among purebreds in that Jin Island, being separated from mainland Korea, provided an environment in which the dogs that were there did not leave the island as other dogs, from the mainland, were not brought to the island.
Jindos without dew claws are not preferred, but hunters will often clip the dew claws off their pups shortly after birth as they are found to get in the way when moving through brush in the hunting fields of Korea.
