Uganda is no longer a place of terror located in the center of fl Africa where once upon a time despot dictators thumbed their noses at the world whilst running amock with the economics of the country they pretended to govern.
Jinja is close to the Owen Falls Dam, a hydroelectric station that supplies Uganda with the bulk of its electricity.

Jinja, 2nd largest town in Uganda, is the home of the National Office and the administrative centre of some of the projects, which include TORCH, and Kangulumira Integrated Health Programme (KIHP), which works in villages just outside Jinja.
Uganda is generally considered a very safe country to visit (with the exception of some Northern areas which can be easily avoided) but be sensible with large amounts of money and do not be too ostentatious with cameras and jewellery etc. Be conscious of thieves especially in Kampala and other main towns.
Jinja is also at the Source of the Nile (entrance to a pleasant garden overlooking the source 2000- 3000Ush) and also on the River Nile are Bujagali and Kalagala Falls, which are within easy reach for a day trip.

Colin Bennet and others have reported that all of the Avonja Team from Avon arrived safetly at Entebbe as part of the Uganda 2000 epedition to a warm welcome from Uganda's Chief Commissioner, its National Executive Commissioner, Eric Goulding leader of the Uganda 2000 expedition and of course myself with the Outspan School Band.
This had been an unexpected part of the visit as we had intended to go straight to Jinja but I guess that the publicity opportunity was not to be missed by the Uganda Scout Association.
Yesterday (Monday) most of the Uganda 2000 left us and we made a delayed trip into Jinja only to be given the task of planting hundreds of trees on a Leisure Park.
