	Mamou Jitterbug Instruction (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
		The Mamou jitterbug is a style of 6-count jitterbug closely related to swing, which is often danced alternating with Mamou two-step in the same dance.
		The follower's footwork is similar to the outside turn except that she is not traveling forward but is going around in place.
		We think that the Mamou jitterbug is great fun, particularly when integrated with the Mamou two-step in the same dance.

	East Coast Swing Dance - Streetswings Dance History archives - Main Page
		East Coast Swing is an "invented dance (a non Folk)," modified from a prior original form (Lindy Hop) by the 'American Society of Teachers of Dancing' in 1942.
		The best style would depend on what type of music you are dancing to at the time, the theme of the dance being held, the speed in which the music is played and the dance knowledge of you and or your partner.
		This dance is what we call a 'side-swing' meaning that the dance moves from side-to-side and partners mostly trading sides on patterns.

	Swing Dance Styles
		While the dance that evolved from all this creative energy came to be known as the "Lindy Hop", it should be remembered that during this early development of Swing dancing, there were certainly many different styles of now unnamed and undocumented swing dance.
		The Jitterbug as a whole is danced with a low center of gravity, the weight generally forward, bent and elastic knees, a swinging feeling in the feet, and a "loose" (but still controlled) body posture.
		Dance choreographers (to include Collins) would often replace the circular type movements of the Lindy Hop and Jitterbug with movement along a straight line or "slot" so they could place more couples on the floor without losing their faces to the camera.

		These early dances of the century were usually not accepted by white society because of their fl origins and influences.

		In the dance community there are differing opinions as to which of these dances should be called Swing Dances.
		This is an advanced form of west coast swing dance that allows the leader or follower to extend patterns at will with their own interpretive styling to the music.

		I went from 90% Cajun jitterbug to almost all two-step, Mamou two-step (which, by the way, was named that by Millie Ortego because she saw it danced in Mamou), and Mamou jitterbug.
		A large, almost level dance floor was constructed away from stage at the foot of a grove of banyan trees that provided cooling shade over the dance floor as the afternoon sun lowered in the West.

		Most bandstanders learned the dance from their peers on this TV show.
		Also, the tight confines of the studio's hard concrete floor, obstructed by bulky moving TV cameras, and criss-crossed with thick video cables, was hardly condusive to any kind of flash dancing.
