  Retired Professor Joan Greenwood Dies
Greenwood first joined the Cal State Fullerton faculty in 1963 and was honored in 2001 as the recipient of the university’s Faculty Leadership in Collegial Governance Award.
Greenwood is survived by John, her husband of more than 50 years, and their two grown children, Neil and Mary.
Because Greenwood was so grateful for the financial assistance she received from Stanford University, her alma mater, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the English Department at Stanford University.

Greenwood's most notable screen appearances were as Gwendolen in The Importance of Being Earnest (1952) and opposite Dennis Price in the fl comedy, Kind Hearts and Coronets[?] (1949).
Her last film was Little Dorrit, made in the year of her death.

Trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she made her stage debut at age 18; three years later she was cast by actor/director Leslie Howard in the lead of the wartime morale-booster The Gentle Sex (1942).
Greenwood began the '60s with a surprisingly colorless damsel-in-distress role in Mysterious Island (1961) but made up for a bad start with her exquisite portrayal of Lady Bellaston in Tom Jones (1963), which earned her an Oscar nomination.
In films right up to the year of her death, Joan Greenwood was the wife (and later widow) of British actor Andre Morrell.
