In that series, Joanie - the youngest of the Cunninghams - was in love with the Fonz's cousin Charles, nicknamed Chachi; ABC TV executives spotted the potential for the pair to develop within a series of their own and duly launched Joanie Loves Chachi.
The result was a confused series that seemed unable to make up its mind whether it was a lame comedy or, with Joanie and Chachi singing songs in every episode, a musical vehicle for Hollywood to produce new teenybop stars, a la The Monkees.
Together with Al, Joanie and Chachi returned to Happy Days and were married in the final episode.

There is some truth here in that the "ch" and "j" sounds are similar in Korean, and "jaw-jee" is a bit of Korean slang that refers to the male genitalia, so the name "Chachi" could be heard as "penis" by Koreans.
These broadcasts were intended for American audiences, but of course some Koreans did see them and had the chance to chuckle over the unintended dual meaning of the name "Chachi." However, the broadcasts were not part of "regular" Korean television programming and therefore could in no way be compared to them in terms of ratings.
If the series had been presented as fare for a general Korean TV audience, surely some alterations would have been made.
