Jobraith is hard to comment about - I'd never heard of him, but clearly someone thought he deserved a big heap of credit in this article, which might simply be a case of fan worship overcoming encyclopedic objectivity.
Oh, yeah, and Jobraith was huge in Britain, but history has swept him under the carpet.
Certainly their initial success with Waterloo in the UK was achieved by ditching the by-then tired "boom bang-a-bang" type of Eurovision song, and jumping on the Glam bandwagon, which by then ('74) was in full swing.

His band, all wearing fl pants and fl t-shirts with "Jobraith" in hot pink, were excellent.
Jobraith, for those who were wondering and didn't know, was a rocker from the 1970's who proudly proclaimed himself a "true fairy" and is believed to be the first openly gay rock musician.
Jobraith lived out his career as a lounge singer and died in 1983 of AIDS in a pyramid on the top of New York's legendary Hotel Chelsea, where profound and struggling artists alike have gone to live and die for decades.

Sean, did you ever hear that Lance Loud story about his run-in with Jobraith in a piano bar in the early Eighties?
Apparently Lance heard that Jobraith was performing standards at some hotel cocktail lounge in Manhattan as Cole Something-or-other.
And Jobriath/Cole had a request jar set up on the piano, into which Lance placed his request for "Blow Away".

He was also the first pop musician to be openly gay - if you discount Bowie's since-retracted bisexual confessions.
At the time, he was lambasted for being a Bowie clone, and while it can't be denied that Bowie was a huge influence, Jobraith took it a bit further in the provocative stakes.
Jobriath's first single was an audacious S+M anthem titled Take me, I'm Yours.
