JockTaylor (March 9, 1954 - August 15, 1982) was a Scottish World Champion motorcycle sidecar racer.
Born in Pencaitland, East Lothian, the motorcycle sidecar racer JockTaylor - with his passenger Benga Johansson - won the sidecar World Championship in 1980, winning 4 races, and finishing on the podium in all seven events.

The name of JockTaylor and his subsequent exploits in British, TT and World championship racing are simply legendary and his contribution to Sidecar racing, and indeed motorcycle sport, helped create awareness and enthusiasm seldom seen for the fantastic spectacle that the ‘Charioteers’ provide.
Jock always had a fondness for road venues and despite the race organisers shortening the demanding course and lining the attendant obstacles with straw bales and foam padding, many in the paddock called for the meeting to be abandoned.
Jock was a true and gutsy racer and he reckoned on the fact that all the riders had travelled to the far off venue and there was a race to be run.

John Robert Taylor hailed from the small East Lothian town of Pencaitland and his formative racing years were spent first with a bout of passengering with Kenny Andrews (1974), before taking to the helm as driver with Lewis Ward on a Windrick BSA outfit in 1975.

His father, Sir JockTaylor was a diplomat so he and the family moved from country to country on a regular basis.

Kirkcaldy Club who ran the meeting have already had talks with Knockhill circuit and are pleased to say that they will re schedule this cancelled meeting on Saturday 1st October at Knockhill.
On Sunday 2nd October we also have the JockTaylor event – both days being championship events.
As far as we are led to believe the 2005 Celtic Match races will be run in Ireland (north or south not yet known) and our team manager, Ian Thomson, is still working hard looking for support and FUNDING to send our 2004 winning teams to Ireland to defend our title.
