The Jodimars - Biography - AOL Music
The Jodimars were formed in 1955 by three members of Bill Haley's Comets, Joey Ambrose (sax), Dick Richards (drums), and Marshall Lytle (bass).
It was Pingatore who wrote "Clara-Bella." This Jodimars track, though reissued on CD more than once, is probably among the least-heard original versions of songs covered and released by the Beatles.
The Jodimars could not find a record deal after their last Capitol single, and concentrated much of their live performance schedule on Las Vegas engagements in the late 1950s, breaking up in 1959 after a few personnel changes.

 THE JODIMARS
The Jodimars were a spin-off band from Bill Haley and the Comets.
Perhaps the key drawback to the Jodimars was their lack of a strong lead singer, to match the quality of the backing tracks.
During 1956, the Jodimars had a hectic touring schedule, but without a hit record, it was difficult to maintain the interest of the rock 'n' roll public.

 Jodimars Information
The Jodimars was an American rock and roll band that was formed in the summer of 1955 and remained active until 1958.
By the 1960s, the Jodimars were only a memory, with Lytle going into real estate, Ambrose becoming a casino pit boss in Las Vegas, and Boccelli/Richards becoming a stage and movie actor.
A Jodimars cover version of "Dim Dim the Lights" (which was also a hit for Haley and the Comets) is also known to exist but has never been released.

RAB Hall of Fame: The Jodimars
At long last the Jodimars performed once again at a festival in the U.K. during November 1989, when Joey, Dick and Marshall reunited for an intended one-time-only show as an extra attraction to their appearance with fellow Comets Franny Beecher and Johnny Grande.
Their Jodimars show created such a stir that it nearly eclipsed the main event, and now every Comets show includes at least a couple of Jodimars numbers.
At about the time the Jodimars were introducing rock'n'roll to Las Vegas, Bill Haley was touring England, and the interview with Monty Lister in Liverpool (on February 20th 1957) captures him at the height of the frenzy which built-up during this historic tour.

The Jodimars - CD Well now dig this
It was the Jodimars' misfortune to record for Capitol at the height of the label's success in the pop field.
The Jodimars continued to maintain their hectic touring schedule, but without a hit record it would become difficult to maintain the interest of the rock'n'roll public.
It was at this time that the Jodimars adjusted their sights and headed west in search of gold - which they found in the casino lounges of Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada.

Although there have been other Jodimars compilations, this is the one to get, as it includes all of their Capitol singles and numerous unreleased and rare bonus tracks.
The key drawback to the Jodimars was their lack of a strong lead singer; the vocals sound rather like early-'50s pop artists trying to awkwardly adapt to rock & roll, although the backing tracks swing along pretty well.
At the end are five rare, passable Bill Haley recordings (without any involvement by the Jodimars) from 1968, as well as British Haley interviews from 1957 and 1968.

These performances are nothing less than electrifying, especially the previously unavailable covers, which feature quite a few versions of classics by Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley.
There are also off-the-beaten-path tunes by the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly on down to obscurities by the Jodimars, Chan Romero (a marvelous "Hippy Hippy Shake"), Eddie Fontaine, and Ann-Margret.
The greatest gem is probably their fabulous version of Arthur Alexander's "Soldier of Love," which (like several of the tracks) would have easily qualified as a highlight of their early releases if they had issued it officially.
