Joe Bob Goes to the Drive In is the first book by John Bloom under the pen name Joe Bob Briggs.
Joe Bob exclusively viewed movies in drive-ins, in his Toronado with any one of several girlfriends.
The only two people who actually appear in the first person are Joe Bob and, interestingly, Stephen King, who saw several of his books made into movies during that period and actually wrote the introduction to the book when it was compiled and published in 1987.

Drive-in, a facility such as a bank, restaurant, theatre or even a church where one can literally drive in with an automobile for service.

Joe Bob Briggs, the alter-ego of writer John Bloom, began writing for the Dallas Times Herald at the age of nineteen when his column, Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In, appeared for the first time on January 15, 1982.
In April of 1985, however, Joe Bob wrote a parody of "We Are the World" called "We Are the Weird," resulting in the cancellation of his column and his firing from the paper.
Joe Bob Briggs would not be denied his audience and went on to star in his one-man comedy show.

These "reviews" were, unfortunately, taken up mostly by long-winded first person narratives, composed in "Uncle Remus" style phonetic dialect, about swilling beer in pickup trucks while trying to initiate sexual congress with a series of small town beauticians.
