Concluding a debate in parliament on the draft EU constitution, Dr Borg also said in reply to opposition remarks that adoption of the euro could only come about after particular economic criteria were achieved, and Malta would not, therefore, unduly rush to adopt the euro in a manner which would cause problems for its economy.
Dr Borg said he was optimistic that if the current atmosphere persisted in the IGC, the work on the constitution could be concluded by the end of the year.
