Joe Davis (15 April, 1901 - 10 July, 1978), was an English professional snooker and billiards player, generally regarded as the father of modern snooker, and one of the greatest players of all time.
Joe Davis became a professional billards player at the age of 18, but soon developed an interest in snooker.
Joe Davis died two months after collapsing while watching his brother in the 1978 world snooker championships semi-final.

Joe Davis made a high break at Billiards of 2.501 in 1927, so naturally all cues that bear this mark were made after this date.  Incidentally Joe Davis made a Snooker break of 100 in the championship of 1928, the two breaks often appear together on some cues.
Joe also recorded record Snooker breaks right up to 1955 when he made a 147, this break was not in the world championship as he had retired from competing in the event after 20 tears of domination.

My great grandma was Avalia/Availa Davis, Joe and Nancy (Bevins) Davis's daughter, and she told my aunt that she remember moving to Harold KY in a covered wagon and walking, but she never said from where.
Most of the Bevins I run into are from around Pike, my mother said the area that Joe and Nancy lived in could have been call either Pike or Floyd.
