 Hackney's White loses cancer fight
Long-time Hackney coach Joe White died of cancer on Sunday afternoon after a long battle against cancer.
White, who had been credited with developing the careers of a multitude of young players from London and elsewhere, had briefly returned to working with his basketball club after fighting against illness but his condition deteriorated in recent weeks.

A separate tax package that the House approved last week would raise $562 million next year, mainly by extending for two years a half-cent sales tax and an upper-income tax bracket that were first adopted in 2001.
House leaders were stymied in early attempts to win votes for the tax by a handful of Democrats from tobacco-growing districts.
Hackney said that a 25 cent increase would leave North Carolina's cigarette tax at less than most states and far less than the national average of 85 cents a pack.

Development rights are essentially severed from the land and turned into transferable credits so that developers can purchase the credits and trade preservation of open space in one area of the town’s jurisdiction for the right to develop more densely in another area.
H 1547 – Chapel Hill Open Space (Joe Hackney) is another Chapel Hill local bill that would allow the town to purchase open space outside of its jurisdiction for the purpose of preserving it.
