Joseph M. "Joe" Hoeffel (pronounced "Huffle") (born September 3, 1950) is a Democratic U.S politician from the state of Pennsylvania.
He was originally elected to the House in the election of 1998, after serving as a state representative from 1977 through 1984, and as a county commissioner from 1991 to 1998.
Hoeffel is a member of the Dean Dozen, a group of candidates for local and national office (although numerically far more than twelve, but grouped in twelves) endorsed by former presidential candidate Howard Dean and his Democracy for America organization.

Joe is a thoughtful, serious progressive who while in the House worked hard on international security issues and was arrested in a protest against the genocide in Sudan.
Joe Hoeffel would be an excellent Lieutenant Governor because he is not power-hungry and would be an excellent adviser to Rendell and defender of Rendell’s policies.
As a campaigner, Joe is a good speaker and in a year in which PA voters are concerned about government accountability on the national (Tom DeLay, etc.) and state (the pay raise) levels, a smart, non-machine politician would be a great addition to the ticket.
