Locke has recorded 20 CDs as a band leader, including the critically acclaimed "Moment to Moment", a tribute to the music of Henry Mancini.
Joe Locke has been on the scene for over twenty years, though it is only in the past decade that his name has begun to reach a broader audience.
In 2000, Locke recorded his first album with Sirocco Records and continued to record for his unique groups such as Storytelling, and "4 Walls of Freedom" and as a member of the Storms/Nocturnes Trio, with Tim Garland and Geoffrey Keezer.

Straight Ahead and in the Pocket - the motto of Sharp Nine Records - is an apt description of Joe Locke’s latest release, recorded in early April 2005 at the famous Ronnie Scott’s nightclub in London.
Locke had earlier been invited to play with Milt Jackson’s former rhythm section at New York’s, SMOKE, jazz club and the engagement went so well that a Sharp Nine recording gig was set up at Europe’s premiere jazz club for a six night run.
Locke’s notes in the CD booklet indicate that the songs selected for the recording were taken from the repertoire Milt played with this rhythm section.

This music on vibraphonist Joe Locke's Rev-elation CD is a tribute to Milt Jackson, as indicated by the very name of the quartet.
Every tune is full of interest but highlights include the set-opening "The Prophet Speaks", the mid-tempo "Young and Foolish", the slightly funky title track, the swinging "Opus De Funk", a moving rendition of Johnny Mandel's "Close Enough for Love", and the romping "Used to Be Jackson" by Ray Brown which closes the set.
Joe Locke may have a slightly more aggressive approach to the vibes than Jackson.
