Joe Melson was inducted into the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame in Jackson, Tennessee on August 8, 2002.
Melson's songs had over 15 million confirmed airplays in the United States alone, not including airplay overseas where his songs were bigger than Elvis.

Joe Melson is of course best known as the co-writer of many Roy Orbison hits.
The advent of rock 'n' roll did not fail to have its effect on Joe : soon he was leading a rockabilly band called the Cavaliers, based in Midland, where they were spotted by local impresario Ray Rush, who was the man responsible for bringing Melson and Orbison together.
Melson contributed the dum-dum-dum dooby-doo- wah background vocals, along with the Anita Kerr Singers.

There's a song by Joe Melson on the recent (and excellent) Bear Family compilation "The Drugstore's Rockin' Volume 1".
The usual impeccable BF liner notes say that Joe is best known as a co-writer with Orbison around 1960/1 (Uptown, Only the Lonely etc), later writing "Run Baby Run" as we know, and later still re-uniting with the Big O for MGM and Virgin albums.
