Joe Pesci was a short, stocky, weary-faced character actor and unlikely leading man of the 1980s and 90s, usually playing Italian-American hoods and generic losers.
As a child, Pesci was an actor on local radio dramas, and at ten he was singing and dancing on the live TV variety show Star Time Kids.
Adolescence, though, dealt him the face and frame of Joe Pesci, and his showbiz career came to a halt.

Police were preparing to send the investigation results to the Palm Beach County prosecutors to determine whether Pesci should be charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly punching Juan Carlos Montenegro, 24.
Montenegro, a Broward Community College student, told police that after encountering Pesci, 62, he shook the actor's hand and told him he was a big fan.
If Pesci is charged, he would be issued a court summons, and would not be booked into the county jail, said Mike Edmondson, state attorney's office spokesman.

Part of the problem is the film's inconsistent reliance on voice-over narration that shifts uneasily between De Niro and Pesci; part of the problem is the film's uneasy shifting between love story and gangster movie.
