reviewjournal.com -- Sports: JOE HAWK: Robinson exits with promise unfulfilled
John Robinson, so celebrated upon his hiring six years earlier, was supposed to go out riding high upon the shoulders of UNLV players joyous and jubilant over another winning season and, better, another bowl-game victory.
There was an off-field incident with players vandalizing a home rented by fraternity brothers, Robinson's cool relationship with then-athletic director Cavagnaro, his own turn as AD upon Cavagnaro's forced resignation in 2001, and medical issues involving both himself and his wife, Linda, that resulted in him stepping down as AD some 15 months later.
This was to be a bowl season, I believed, and Robinson --making about $500,000 a year and getting the program national-TV exposure -- would either step down on top or coach one final season in 2005 to build upon the success of this season.
