Comic Book Artist Magazine #12 - Joe Staton Interview - TwoMorrows Publishing
Joe has worked for just about everybody, from DC to Marvel to First (serving as the latter's initial art director), but perhaps his Charlton material is his most endearing work, dramatic yet whimsical, alternating between frolic and fear with the ease of an accomplished, confident cartoonist.
Joe: The things that I was told were told while I was there, or I heard otherwise (but Nick could tell all this stuff first-hand), was it was cheaper to publish comics than it was to shut the presses down.
Joe: It was a Prisoner story, and would take place in The Village, the CIA working against Number Six, and not knowing if it was their Village, or somebody else's Village...

Where Are They Now: Joe Staton
Joe Staton's major league debut with the Detroit Tigers wasn't exactly front-page news, to no fault of his own.
Today, Staton, 56, cuts a dapper figure, usually dressed in a crisp white shirt and tie, continually on the move with his all-consuming projects.
Staton, who lives on Mercer Island with his second wife, Rhonda, and has four grown children, Keith, 37, Mario, 35, Jeff, 33, and Moneka, 30, was a left-handed first baseman who could hit and run with proficiency.

 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: E-man
In general outlook, E-Man owed a lot to Jack Cole's Plastic Man — both were shape-shifting heroes who dealt with serious menaces in a light-hearted way; and while both maintained balance most of the time, they did slip occasionally into outright comedy, especially when handled by people other than their creators.
To begin with, Plas was a man with a super power, whereas E-Man was an energy being born eons ago in a supernova, who merely took on the form of a man (or whatever else struck his fancy) while sojourning on Earth.
Staton took over scripting with #9, and Cuti returned near the end of the 25-issue First Comics run.

Granted, this is one book of three, but a writer of Charyn's experience should have been able to build strong characters right from the start.

Right back on track, with a more consistent story and probably the best artwork ever seen at this stage of the series.
It's truly a pity that the team of Joe Staton (famous for his work on DC's GREEN LANTERN among all else) and Geof Isherwood (who turned in an outstanding inking job here) didn't stay together after this issue, as most of the subsequent stories could've used the artistic boost.
As it is, this is the first story about Justice which deals really in-depth with his mythology, the otherworldly quest, and in that it pulls off a number of things quite nicely.
