Joseph Lee "Joe" Watson was born in Burnt Corn February 14, 1919 to Alfred Mobley "Mob" Watson and Elvira Armstrong.
Because Joe was 14 years old at the time of his father death and was the older of the two boys he had to take on the responsibility of the "man of the house." Elvira eventually remarried a man from Beatrice, Alabama by the name of Choice Wright.
Joe was confident in his ability to make babies and believing with no doubt that he had the right stuff to create two more farm hands in one single shot to cement his potential to pay off the mortgage.

Good defense ran in the Watson family, as Joe’s younger brother Jimmy joined the Flyers in 1973 and became a mainstay on the blue line until 1982.
It was Joe Watson who held the puck behind the Flyers’ goal as the final seconds ticked away during Game 6 of the Flyers’ first championship in 1974.
In February 1996, Watson was inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame.

Joe Watson was the first of the two to reach the NHL, as he joined the Boston Bruins for a brief stint in 1965.
Watson's rights were sold to the Colorado Rockies in the summer of 1978, but a serious leg injury early in the 1978/79 season ended his playing career.
Watson retired from professional hockey in 1982, after appearing in 613 regular season games and another 101 playoff contests for the Flyers.
