Helen Reddy Current News from Unofficial Helen Reddy Website
Musically both albums presented with a balance of inspirational soul pop and sweeping, romantic balladry, highlighted by covers of material penned by Billy Joel, Leon Russell, Don McLean, Paul Williams, Peter Allen, Carole Bayer-Sager, Tom Jans, Albert Hammond and Mike Hazelwood.
Perhaps the sight of a heavily pregnant Reddy (expecting her second child, son Jordan, after daughter Traci) singing I Am Woman on American TV while promoting the single had as big a hand in the song’s success as the music itself.
Like the strident title track, the album captured the zeitgeist of the day as vigorously as the work of any other female performer of Reddy’s generation.
