Joel Theodore Stransky was born in Pietermaritzburg (near Johannesburg) South Africa, on July 16, 1967.
Joel played for South Africa 23 times scoring 237 points and between 1993 and 1996 he gained 22 caps for his country.
Prior to that, Joel played for Natal in 1990 scoring 195 points in 14 games in the Currie Cup and took the record for points scored in a season - 304 in total.

Stransky's work permit was nearly expired and the RFU indicated it would not be renewed.

In the opening match of the 1995 World Cup, Joel Stransky became the first Springbok in history to score all four possible ways in one test (a try, a conversion, four penalty goals and a drop goal) as South Africa defeated reigning World Champions Australia, 27-18.
Stransky had been tipped for great things ever since he caught attention as a talented 19 year old playing his debut season of first-class rugby for Northern Transvaal in 1987.
Joel made his Springbok debut in Sydney on the tour to Australia in 1993, and two weeks later, scored his first international points with a stunning intercept try in the test in Brisbane.

London - Former Springbok Joel Stransky was awarded £151 025 damages against Bristol on Wednesday after the English Premiership club withdrew an offer of a coaching post that had been made over dinner.
Stransky's case was that the repudiation occurred at the end of June 2000 when Bristol Rugby Club decided not to engage his services.
Stransky, he said, was "left on a string for three months until it was decided at the Bath Spa Hotel on June 26 that he would not be taken on."

JOEL Stransky, the Springbok flyhalf who won the 1995 World Cup for SA, predicted yesterday that the Springboks would have their hands full with the French squad named on Monday to play two tests in SA later this month.
Stransky said his biggest concern ahead of the Springboks’ incoming tours against Uruguay, France and Australia was the poor form shown by their backs in this year’s Super 12 competition.
Stransky also expressed concern that flyhalf Jaco van der Westhuyzen — the only specialist flyhalf in the squad, who has been playing in Japan for the past few months — suffered a back injury at gym early last week, which has forced him to sit out of training for most the first week.
