Aiuppa got his nickname "Joey Doves" after he had been arrested transporting mourning doves unlawfully across state lines.
Aiuppa later retired remaining in semi-retirement with advisor Tony "Big Tuna" Accardo turning control to Jackie "The Lackey" Cerone.
In 1985 Aiuppa had been convicted of skimming profits from Las Vegas casinos, and died in prison at the age of 89.

For the serious crime historian or the amateur organized-crime buff (I count myself in the latter category), Napoli's book is an indispensable volume.
It's filled with dates, hard facts, police records, biographies, photographs, statistics and other vital, accurate information regarding those who made up and make up Chicago's underworld, from Al Capone to Joey Doves Aiuppa to labor big-wig Edward Hanley.
The only criticism I have, which has been made in other reviews here, is that the grammar and spelling are atrocious and may induce migraine in those who try to read this at one sitting.
