		Melvins drummer Dale Crover's side project, Altamont, came on in a whirlwind of guitar feedback and drum rolls as a crowd materialized in front of the stage.
		Crover plays guitar in a heavy, riff-rock manner, ably backed by bassist Dan Southwick and drummer Joey Osbourne.
		Using plenty of feedback, wah-wah pedal and lead guitar breaks accented by polyrhythmic tom-tom patterns and waves of oceanic cymbal bashing, Altamont generates a vibe that perfectly complements the Melvins' sound without copying it.

	THE ONE TRUE DEAD ANGEL: # 02 : music reviews
		Oddly enough, this album sounds more like BUSSE WOODS than the split (where Brian Hill was responsible for the four-string levitation), but that's okay with me, because BUSSE WOODS is a hell of a lot better than either of the splits.
		Osbourne's drumming is a tad busier this time around, but otherwise everything on this album sounds like it could have been recorded during the BUSSE WOODS sessions.
		Several of the songs clock in around six or seven minutes, and "War of the Mind" is nearly twelve minutes long, so there's plenty of opportunity for Lori to waffle on fractured leads and cyclical riffs.

		Pick any song from III and it'd sound just as at home on any previous Acid King release.
		To begin, there are only three instruments, but each player does as much as possible to fill the most aural space with his or her instrument, whether it's Joey Osbourne's busy-yet-still-seemingly-lethargic drumming, Guy Pinhas' platelet-rumbling bass frequencies, or singer/guitarist Lori's grumbling guitar tone, which at times seems capable of eating through sheet rock.
		Imagine the sounds coming from these instruments coinciding long enough for seven-ten minute "formations" (I won't call them songs) and add oddly distorted, almost ethereal vocals over the top, and you've got the ideal accompaniment for your next red wine bender.

		We've got a killer band now with Joey Osbourne on drums and Guy Phinas (ex - Goatsnake, Obsessed) on bass so it can only get better.
