The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism (JOKB) is a monastic order of syncretic Seon Buddhism and serves as the largest denomination of Buddhism in Korea.
It was established in 1354 in the late Goryeo Dynasty, as a means of uniting all of the various factions of Buddhism which were abroad in Korea at that time.
The numerous temples of the Jogye order are arranged under 24 "head temples." The head temples each oversee a district (gyogu), containing a large number of subordinate temples.

An official of the order told UCA News on April 27 that Buddhists would hold a Vesak ceremony in the Jogye Temple in downtown Seoul on May 5, at which time Venerable Beopjeon's message and congratulatory messages from other religions would be presented in public.

The temple is the headquarters of Jogye Order, South Korea's largest Buddhist sect.
