Count Lennart Torstenson (1603-1651) was a Swedish soldier, son of Torsten Lennartson, commandant of Älvsborg fortress.
Under Johan Banér he rendered distinguished service at the Battle of Wittstock[?] and during the energetic defence of Pomerania in 1637 - 1638, as well as at the Battle of Chemnitz[?] and in the raid into Bohemia in 1639.
Illness compelled him to return to Sweden in 1641, when he was made a member of the Privy Council.

 The Thirty Years War, 1618-1648
A Bavarian-Imperial army under Johan Tzerclaes Tilly then defeated the Bohemians in the Battle of the White Mountain 1620 and restored Bohemia to Habsburg rule; here, also, the Counterreformation was introduced, as in the Upper Palatinate, territory of the Winter King (Frederick Count Palatinate) adjacent to both Bohemia and Bavaria.
With replenished troops, Swedish General Baner took the offensive, while Winter King Frederick V.'s successor, Karl Ludwig, suffered a crushing defeat in the Battle of Hochfeld.
Baner died in 1641 and was replaced by General Lennart Torstensson, who invaded Moravia.

The most prominent member of this family would be Johan Banér, who was a general in the Swedish army in the 30 Years' War; he was born at Djursholm castle.
