In May 1654, the Dutch Fort Casimir was conquered by the New Sweden colony, led by governor Johan Rising.
The fort was taken without force because no gunpowder was present, and the fort renamed Fort Trinity.

Although Rising and his soldiers left the territory on October 11, 1655, most of the Swedish settlers remained, including Morton Mortenson (the spelling of whose name has several variations, including Mortonson, Mortensson, and Martensson, among others, and which eventually became the surname Morton).
Born in Finland, a part of Sweden at the time, the date of his emigration to New Sweden is not clear but was certainly in or before 1654.

Although there is some debate as to whether the prehistoric, Clovis culture was European in origin, the first generally accepted European colonists were the Norse, starting but then abandoning a colonisation process.

A descendent of this Sir Johan von Klock, one Rudolph von Klock, was made a Barone of the Roman Empire by Emperor Sigsmund, and during the reign of Frederick, when the Electorate of Brandenbeg was united to the duchy of Prussia, Herman von Klock was created a Count.
Another record of the same Church, records the marriage of his daughter Anna Margretha, to Christopher Phillip Fox in the year 1760, and another daughter, Maria Lena, baptized June 9th, 1728, married Lt. Johannes Bellinger who was slain at tie Battle of Oriskany.
There also appears to have been a son Johan Henrich, who married Anna Jung, (Young) but I have no proof that he was, and neither have I proof that there were other children than those I have named, but ro doubt there was such, and in time they may come to light.

Skute returned to Sweden in 1650 to report on the condition of the colony to Queen Christina, and to recruit more settlers.
By 1654, the former Governor of New Sweden, Printz, had deserted the colony, and Johan Rising was sent as the new Governor.
Lt. Skute returned to New Sweden with Rising and with his new commission as Captain, landed with his soldiers and captured the Dutch stronghold of Fort Casimir, which had been built in 1651 to cut off ships on the Delaware from reaching the Swedish Fort Christina.
