Johan Cruijff (sometimes spelled Cruyff; born April 25, 1947 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch football trainer/coach and former star player, regarded by many as one of the all-time greats of the game.
Named three times European Footballer of the Year (1971, 1973, 1974) and European Player of the Century by the IFFHS in 1999, he was a silky exponent of the football philosophy known as Total Football, developed by his trainer Rinus Michels.
Johan Cruijff has trained two football clubs after his active career as a player, Ajax and Barcelona.

Cruyff was one of a number of youngsters who emerged with Ajax of Amsterdam in the late Sixties and came to dominate European and world football in the early Seventies.
Cruyff was born in Amsterdam in 1947 close to the Ajax ground.
Cruyff was voted European Footballer of the Year for the second time in 1973, but at the end of the season he left Ajax to join his former manager Rinus Michels who was now in charge at Barcelona.

Johan Cruyff was the fulcrum around which Dutch "total football" revolved.
Cruyff had already won three European Cups with Ajax, three European player of the year awards and a Spanish title at Barcelona by the time of the 1974 finals.
As temperamental as he was talented, Cruyff was constantly at odds with teammates, coaches and clubs and a series of disagreements with the Dutch football association meant Cruyff sat out the 1978 finals in Argentina and ended his international career with just 48 caps.
