In an 15-minute span on Saturday, the No. 7 Stanford Cardinal men's soccer team (11-3-1, Pac-10 Conference 2-2-1) saw its chances of repeating this year as Pac-10 champions slowly dwindle away, as the California defense managed to survive a four-shot onslaught by the Stanford offense and defeated the Cardinal 1-0.
With the score tied at 0-0 in its match against the No. 15 Golden Bears (11-3-1, 4-1-0), Stanford senior midfielder Johanes Maliza started the Cardinal onslaught with a shot in front of the goal that was saved by Cal keeper Josh Saunders at the 22-minute mark.
Only 60 seconds later, first-team All-American senior forward Roger Levesque blasted a shot directly in front of the Cal net, but again Saunders saved the day.

As in the Rochester games three nights before, the Timbers were on their heels right from the start as the Islanders went on the attack immediately.
The Timbers defense had to turn away two shots inside the first minute, with shots by Corey Woolfolk and Johanes Mazila being blocked by the defense from inside the 18-yard box before they could get to the Timbers goal.
But goalkeeper Josh Saunders would have work soon enough, having to jump back to tip a shot off the crossbar on the subsequent corner kick, but eventually the Timbers would clear that chance as well.
