  Johann Adolf Hasse
Consequently Hasse and his wife, the singer Faustina Bordoni, were able to continue their careers in Italy, sometimes staying there for years on end, which gave Pistori, Zelenka and Pisendel a chance to shine in Dresden.
Hasse's works were to have been published in the very first "complete edition" of any composer: the enterprise was planned by Breitkopf of Leipzig, but it perished in the flames when Hasse's ardent admirer torched his royal cousin's frontdoor. The elegance and eloquence, beauty and clarity of Hasse's personal "handwriting" are rooted in its harmonic stillness.
Hasse was no stranger to polyphony, but he had no wish to write it for its own sake everywhere and all the time.

 Johann Adolf Hasse

Nine years later (1731) Hasse was appointed to the court of Poland and the electoral court of Saxony.
Beginning in 1734 he served off and on as the director of the Dresden opera where his concert master was the violin virtuoso and proponent of the new Italian concerto style, Pisendel.
Hasse is mentioned in a letter (1775) from Carl Philip Emanuel to Forkel as one whose works his father had especially valued in his later years.

Johann Adolph Hasse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hasse's success led to an engagement at the court theatre of Brunswick-Lüneburg, and it was there that, in 1723, he made his debut as a composer with the opera Antigonus.
There Hasse remained for two years, after which he again journeyed to Italy, and also in 1733 to London, in which latter city he was tempted by the aristocratic clique inimical to Handel to become the rival and antagonist of that great master.
Of Faustina Hasse it will be sufficient to add that she was, according to the unanimous verdict of the critics (including Dr Burney), one of the greatest singers of a time rich in vocal artists.

Hasse's success was based upon his skill in writing for the voice: bel canto was for him the sine qua non of great music and to the beautiful display of lyric melody all else was subordinated.
Hasse's life and travels are signposted by opera seria productions in all the major cities across Europe, yet he also composed music in other genres including 80 flute concerti for one of his most ardent admirers Frederick II of Prussia.
Hasse travelled to Milan in August 1771 to commence rehearsals and one of the first to visit him was Wolfgang Mozart who had been commissioned to write the serenata Ascanio in Alba for the same occasion.

Essentially an operatic composer (he composed more than 70 operas), Johann Adolf Hasse wrote this mass at the very end of his life, while living in Venice, and it stands as his crowning work.
Melodically, however, Hasse strays from the sacred tone that some of the larger-scale movements present.
Hasse, teacher of Haydn and Mozart, was a master of the opera seria.

 Hasse Family Crest
It is a name for a family that lived in Bavaria, where the family was closely identified in early medieval times with the feudal society which would become prominent throughout European history.
In continental Europe, the most ancient recorded family crest was discovered upon the monumental effigy of a Count of Wasserburg in the church of St. Emeran, at Ratisobon, Germany...
In the Hasse coat of arms as in all coat of arms the crest is only one element of the full armorial achievement.

Most of the selections date from the armonica's first period of popularity, which started in the late 1700s and ended in the 1830s, and include compositions by Hasse, Apell, Scmittbauer, a composer who also made armonicas, and Mozart, who composed the Adagio and Rondo for armonica just weeks before he died.
James is joined on the Mozart piece by the Emerson String Quartet, who also play on Garry Eister's Quintet for Glass and Strings, one of the few 20th century pieces written for armonica.
