		Backus was a prominent Separatist minister who represented the New Light Baptists as part of a delegation to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1774, where he argued in favor of separation of church and state.
		The volumes contain a few inked notes in Neander’s small hand and much additional (but thoughtful) neat underlining in some sections; there are a few notes also in an older, larger hand (these trimmed).
