JOHANN BAPTIST CRAMER (1771-1858), English musician, of German extraction, was born in Mannheim, on the 24th of February 1 771.
He was the son of Wilhelm Cramer (1743-1799), a famous London violinist and musical conductor, one of a numerous family who were identified with the progress of music during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Johann Baptist was brought to London as a child, and it was in London that the greater part of his musical efforts was exercised.

The name of Cramer is probably best known today as the firm of publishers still in existence in London but today a far cry from its origins two hundred years ago.
He was, needless to say, a virtuoso player himself, and briefly a pupil of Clementi.
Hopefully the other six concertos are on their way in the fullness of time, but meanwhile these three (with No.8 and its captivating final Rondo a L’Espagnola receiving its premiere recording) make the perfect start to a complete collection.
