 THE DEKALB HISTORY CENTER - DeKalb History
DeKalb was established as Georgia's 56th county and is situated on a natural ridge that runs between Atlanta and Athens, the Continental Divide.
DeKalb was established from parts of Henry, Fayette and Gwinnett Counties with the General Assembly of the State of Georgia appointing five commissioners who picked land lot 246 in the 15th militia district as the county site.
DeKalb was already organized into militia districts with justices of the Inferior Courts and justices of the peace retained their offices.

Johann Henry Jules Alexandre von Robaii, Baron de Kalb (born Johann Kalb) (1721-1780) was a German soldier and a volunteer who served as a major general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.
De Kalb was born in Huettendorf near Erlangen, Bavaria on June 19, 1721, the son of peasants.
In 1886 a monument[1] to Baron de Kalb was erected on the grounds of the Maryland state house to honor his contributions to the revolution.

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), who through his works codified the harmonic and melodic patterns which form the basis of Western art music from the Baroque to the 20th Century, enjoyed an uneventful but successful career, similar to that of other musicians of his time in Lutheran Germany.
He served as organist at Arrnstadt, as court organist at Muhlhausen and later concertmaster in the chapel of the Duke of Weimar, as music director at the court of a Prince of Cothen, and, finally, as Cantor of the St. Thomas School in Leipzig.
It is identified in lists of works by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) as Cantata BWV (Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis) 142, but is now thought by most scholars to be the work of Johann Kuhnau (1660-1722).
