  Johann Friedrich Fasch (Composer) - Short Biography
He was a chorister at Weißenfels in 1699 under Johann Philipp Krieger, a scholar of the Thomasschule in Leipzig from 1701 to 1707, where he studied law as well as music, the latter under Johann Kuhnau.
Johann Friedrich Fasch founded in Leipzig a 'Collegium Musicum,' which seems to have been the ancestor of the 'Grosse Concert' and so of the Gewandhaus concerts; he wrote overtures for the society in the style of Georg Philipp Telemann, and composed three operas.
Johann Friedrich Fasch was the father of the composer Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch (1736-1800).

Johann Friedrich Fasch was born on April 15, 1688, in Buttelstedt near Weimar.
Here, his teacher was Johann Philipp Krieger, a musician of wide culture well versed in the Venetian, Bolognese, Neapolitan, Florentine and Roman schools, acquainted with the musicians of old Bohemia and a pupil of Pasquini.
He was an initiator, marking and developing the breakdown of the mold of the fugal style in favor of a form of thematic development from which romantic writing was to emerge.

Friedrich Georg Fasch, the Rektor in Buttelstaedt, married Sophia, the daughter of the Liessling Pastor, Wegerig, on 3rd May 1687.
Friedrich Georg was called shortly thereafter to the Rektor of the school in Suhl, where he died in 1700.
Autumn 1701 saw Fasch leave Weissenfels and make one of the most decisive moves of his career: he became the first pupil to be taken on at the Thomasschule in Leipzig by the new Kantor, Johann Kuhnau.
