Johann Georg Albrechtsberger - LoveToKnow 1911
JOHANN GEORG ALBRECHTSBERGER (1736-1809), Austrian musician, was born at Kloster-Neuburg, near Vienna, on the 3rd of February 1736.
Albrechtsberger died in Vienna on the 7th of March 1809.
Beethoven knew his own needs when he put himself under Albrechtsberger on finding that Haydn was not thoroughly disposed for the trouble of training him; and though Albrechtsberger could see nothing in him, and warned his other pupils against "that young man who would never turn out anything in good style," he justified Beethoven's confidence.

Albrechtsberger published an enormous quantity of fugues and preludes and fugues, many for either organ or harpsichord.

Albrechtsberger, Johann Georg   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Today Albrechtsberger is most oft-cited as Beethoven's teacher, as a prolific author of music theory and treatises, and as the composer of the most often performed 18th century trombone concerto.
Perhaps it is because he continued writing in a Galant idiom well after the Classicist style had already become the norm; in some of his vocal and late chamber music (1772 onwards), he had even continued writing in a highly complex fugal style, reminiscent of the High Baroque.
During these years Albrechtsberger was most adventuresome-- he wrote very modern pieces for unusual instrumentations, including his universally known trombone concerto (1769), and 2 concertos for Jew's Harp (!) and Mandora (1770-71).

Albrechtsberger, a nearly exact contemporary of Franz Joseph Haydn, was a renowned organist and revered pedagogue in addition to being a composer.
Wolfgang Mozart considered his organ playing to be the benchmark by which other organists should be judged, and Haydn thought so highly of his teachings that he sent Ludwig van Beethoven to study with him for two years beginning in 1794.
Albrechtsberger favored a style that incorporated traditional contrapuntal methods, and his influence on the Viennese School was considerable as can be seen in the major fugal passages in late Mozart (ex.
