Johann Georg Baiter (May 31, 1801 - October 10, 1877), Swiss philologist and textual critic, was born at Zürich.

Mit den Namen Baiters und Sauppes ist eine dritte bekannte Zürcher Textausgabe verbunden, die der Oratores Attici; so verwundert denn auch nicht, dass die Mehrzahl der Textstellen, die Sauppe in seiner zu Zürich datierten Epistola critica ad Godofredum Hermannum bespricht, den attischen Rednern entnommen sind.
Dieselben beiden, Baiter und Sauppe, zeichneten als Übersetzer eines Werkes, das in der deutschen Fassung auch durch den Druckort nach Zürich gehört, der 'Topographie Athens', dieser grundlegenden Darstellung aus der Feder des englischen Topographen und historischen Geographen W.M. Leake.
