Johann Peter Salomon (baptized February 20, 1745, died November 28, 1815) was a violinist, composer, conductor and musical impresario.
He was born in Bonn, and played the violin in the court orchestra there before becoming concert master of the orchestra of Prince Heinrich of Prussia.
Salomon is also believed to have given the Jupiter nickname to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony No. 41.

Van Swieten had much in common with Salomon: Both were occasional composers, and both emigrated from their birth countries-- Salomon, born in Bonn (where he met Beethoven), to London, and van Swieten, born in Leiden, to Berlin and then Vienna.

The Salomon Orchestra was conceived in the Augustiner Keller in Vienna in 1963 by the conductor Nicholas Braithwaite and a group of his contemporaries.
