Aventinus, the name taken by Johannes Turmair, author of the Annales Boiorum, or Annals of Bavaria, from Aventinum, the Latin name of the town of Abensberg, where he was born on the 4th of July 1477.
Although Aventinus did not definitely adopt the reformed faith, he sympathized with the reformers and their teaching, and showed a strong dislike for the monks.
Aventinus, who has been called the "Bavarian Herodotus", wrote other books of minor importance, and a complete edition of his works was published at Munich (1881-86).

B.United International - Aventinus | Wheat Doppelbock(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
Aventinus, the world's oldest top-fermenting wheat doppelbock, was created in 1907 at the Weisse Brauhaus in Munich using "bottle-conditioning" where fresh yeast and malt are added to the bottle to induce secondary fermentation.
Aventinus has received topmost commendations for its perfect balance of two complex layers of flavors - the fruity spiciness brought in by the top-fermenting yeast and the notes of chocolate created by the use of crystal and dark malts.
The label bears a picture of JohannesAventinus, the historian who first described Bavaria and its people.
One of our personal favorites here at Octane, the Aventinus is a full-bodied beer, amber in color and has a pleasant clove-like aroma.
The Aventinus glass is by far one of the coolest drinking receptacles you could hope for, giving your drinking experience the look of a true beer afficionato: a slimmer bottom half of the glass going up to a round, bulb-like top.
Aventinus (the beer) is a weizen beer, (wheat beer) and was created in 1907 thus making it the world’s oldest top-fermenting wheat doppelbock.

Beer Name Means: Aventinus got its name from the street Aventinustrasse, which was the street the Schneider brewery was located when in Munich and before it was destroyed in WWII.
JohannesAventinus (1477-1534) was a historian who wrote about Bavaria.
Holding the Aventinus glass at the base gradually warms the beer and brings out the true flavor for the last half of the beer.

Aventinus, the harmonious exception It is a well-known fact that the names of all Bavarian strong beers have the final syllable -ator.
It stated that “Saint Aventinus” was not a saint at all, but that the name of the beer was derived from a clever brewer living in Aventin Street, the name of which went back to the historian Aventinus alias Johannes Turmair.
But a “Saint Aventinus” did exist: a Roman bishop on top of the seventh hill (Aventin) of Rome was crucified with his head downward.

The chocolate, caramel and pale malts produce a rich, roasted flavor with a slight coffee note and a light, clean finish.
In 1856, Georg Schneider was granted the exclusive right to brew wheat beer in Germany by the Royal Court making his brewery the workd's oldest brewer of Bavarian weissbier.
Aventinus has received the topmost commendations for its perfect balance of two complex flavor profiles.
