  Johannes Bugenhagen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johannes Bugenhagen (24 June 1485 in Wollin, Pomerania—20 April 1558 in Wittenberg, Saxony), also called Doktor Pomeranus by Martin Luther, introduced the Reformation in Pomerania and Denmark in the 16th century.
Bugenhagen was born in Eastern Pomerania in 1485.
Johannes Bugenhagen produced rules and regulations for religious service, for schooling, and for social issues of the church.

Johannes Bugenhagen (1485-1558) was one of the "founding fathers" of the early Protestant church in Europe and a close friend of Martin Luther.

Born in Pomerania (and for that reason nicknamed "Dr. Pommer"), Bugenhagen arrived in Wittenberg in 1521, attracted by Luther's teachings.
He was pastor in Wittenberg until his death, although he spent considerable time traveling in the service of the Reformation, organizing parishes along evangelical patterns.
Bugenhagen assisted Luther in the translation of the Bible, often substituted for him in the pulpit and lecture hall, was Luther's favorite Confessor in Wittenberg, married Luther and Katy, and preached at Luther's funeral in Wittenberg.

That order spoke very clearly of the cross that was imposed in the estate of marriage, something dear to Luther's theology: the taking up of the cross in one's vocation, even as husband and wife.
