Johannes Tinctoris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tinctoris went to Naples in 1472 and spent most of the rest of his life in Italy.
While not much of the music of Tinctoris has survived, that which has shows a love for complex, smoothly flowing polyphony, as well as a liking for unusually low tessituras, occasionally descending in the bass voice to the C two octaves below middle C (showing an interesting similarity to Ockeghem in this regard).
Tinctoris was also known as a cleric, a poet, a mathematician, and a lawyer; there is even one reference to him as an accomplished painter.

Johannes Ockeghem was held in the highest esteem among fifteenth and sixteenth-century musicians, theorists, scholars, and humanists.
Composer and theorist Johann Forkel (1749–1818), an early J. Bach biographer, also praised Ockeghem’s subtlety of craft, citing his monumental Missa Prolationum.
Two useful sources reflecting recent scholarship on Ockeghem include Fitch’s Johannes Ockeghem and the proceedings of the 1997 Ockeghem conference in Tours which includes articles by a variety of experts on fifteenth–century music.

 Johannes Ockeghem's: Biography, Articles
The closest assumed image of the composer is the manuscript painting where he appears as a figure wearing dark glasses (obtainable at that time only from Italy) and a heavy hood [1].
Apparently, it was near the end of 1460, the last year of the reign of Charles VII that Ockeghem wrote the elegy on the death of Binchois [9].
The position held in Tours at that time might be the likliest to be the time and place a familiarity between Johannes Ockeghem and Busnoys and perhaps also the theoretican Johannes Tinctoris was made [10].
