Lord Saltoun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lord Saltoun, since 1669, has also been the head of the Frasers of Philorth.
It has recently been determined that Margaret Abernethy, 10th Lady Saltoun succeeded her brother, Alexander Abernethy, 9th Lord Saltoun in 1668, but only survived him by about 6 weeks and had not been counted in the title's numbering.
Lady Saltoun, Katherine Fraser, and Alexander Fraser's surnames would all not normally be "Fraser." However, due to the fact that they are in line to be (or are already) the Chief of the name and arms of Fraser, their surnames have been recognized by the Lord Lyon King of Arms to be "Fraser."

The second creation was in favour of John Beaufort, Earl of Somerset, who was created Marquess of Dorset; eldest of the legitimated sons of John of Gaunt by Katherine Swynford, the father of Joan Beaufort and father-in-law of James II of Scotland.
It was therefore presumed that the Land descended to the heirs male and on the basis of this assumption Lord Mansfield was of the opinion that there aught to be a presumption in favour of the right of heir male to succeed to peerages of which the destination was not otherwise recorded.
The Earl of Mansfield was a Scot by birth, being younger son of the 5th Viscount of Stormont and brother of the titular Earl of Dunbar, the Jacobite Secretary of State in exile.
