John Black Aird - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aird was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, and served as Lieutenant-Governor from 1980 to 1985.
The consensus among constitutional experts, however, is that Aird acted correctly as there had been an election only weeks before the government's defeat in the House, and as it was clear that Peterson had the support in the House to form a government.
Aird was appointed to the Order of Ontario in 1987, and in 1993 he was promoted to Companion in the Order of Canada.

John Aird was first found as a Widower, age 27, in the 1891 census living at 47 Goring Street, Toxteth Park with his two sons (WJ Harry age 7 and Edward age 3) and also with his sister, Ada J Aird, age 21, a general servant and domestic.
John’s future wife Mary Grice (nee Evans), a Widow age 31, was living at 55 Goring Street with her children (Robert J, William and Annie Grice) and with the Evans family.
John Aird should therefore have been born around 1863/4 and his sister Ada J around 1870/1 but no record of these can be found anywhere in the GRO index for England and Wales.
