John Allen Fraser (born December 15, 1931) is a retired Canadian parliamentarian, and former Speaker of the House of Commons.
Born in Yokohama, Japan, Fraser first won a seat in parliament in the 1972 general election as a Progressive Conservative from Vancouver.
In 1979, Fraser became Minister of the Environment in the short-lived government of Joe Clark, returning to the Opposition benches in 1980.

Fraser is now co-chairman of a follow-on committee charged with implementing earlier recommendations, together with further ministerial directions, intended to present Canada with an adequate and efficient military.

 The John Fraser Ramsey Award
A gala celebration is being planned by Trustees of the John Fraser Ramsey Award on Saturday, April, 16, to honor the 2005 Award recipient, Jon David Conolley and to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the Award.
This facet of the award was named the “John Ramsey Great Ideas Tour” to commemorate a two-semester senior level inter-disciplinary course that John was noted for at the University entitled “Great Ideas of Western Civilization”.
On the occasion of the 28th anniversary we are encouraging friends and admirers of John Ramsey to help us meet our goal of endowing the Great Ideas Tour facet of the Award rather than continuing to fund this part of the Award from yearly contributions from friends of the Award.

With a policy of fighting inflation first, his government tried to reduce the federal deficit and stimulate private industrial activity, dismantling many of Whitlam’s reforms.  In the 1983 election, Fraser was defeated by the Labor opposition led by Bob Hawke.
