 Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick - Premiers Since Confederation
The Honourable John Babbitt McNair was born to James McNair and Francis Anne Lewis on November 20th 1889, in Andover, Victoria County, New Brunswick.
At the same election, the 46 year-old McNair was elected to the Legislative Assembly as a representative for York County.
John B. McNair received in his life were an honorary L.L.D. from the University of New Brunswick in 1938 and an honorary D.C.L. from Mount Allison University in 1951.

Henry John George Herbert, 3rd Earl of Carnarvon (London, June 8, 1800—Pusey, December 10, 1849) was a English writer, traveller and politican, the father of Henry Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon, and Auberon Herbert.
His father Sir John Deas Thomson, was accountant-general to the navy and married Rebecca, daughter of John Freer.

McNair, John Babbitt, lawyer, politician, judge, premier of NB 1940-52 (b at Andover, NB 20 Nov 1889; d at Fredericton 14 June 1968).
Following the defeat of his government in 1952, McNair left politics and returned to legal practice.
In 1955 he was named chief justice of New Brunswick and in 1957 he headed the royal commission examining the fiscal status of Newfoundland.

McNair was initiated in January 1921 and raised in April 1921 as a member of Hiram Lodge #6, Fredericton, N.B. His MM certificate was #10181; he later was a Past Master of Hiram Lodge and PDDGM in 1928-29.

Dr. Bailey served as assistant director and associate curator at the New Brunswick Museum in Saint John from 1935 to 1938.
Correspondence, primarily with Dr. John Clarence Webster, a Shediac surgeon and historian, during the late nineteen thirties documents the unrest evident in the New Brunswick Museum during Dr. Bailey's employment, and clashes with the director, William MacIntosh.
One of the most influential studies was the 1966 Duff and Berdahl report on University Government in Canada, which recommended sweeping reform of the internal government of universities, with greater faculty and student participation.

John died Jan. 9, 2006, in the Weiss Hospice Unit of Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn., six months after the diagnosis of a malignant brain tumor.
John retired to his native Killingworth, Conn., where he was active with the Killingworth Library Association and other civic and philanthropic organizations.
In our 40th-reunion yearbook, John observed wryly that Princeton “taught me some things about myself, mainly that I had to get more serious about my education and my future.” We wish only that we had seen more of him over the years, and we join his family in mourning his passing.
