John Bacon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Bacon (November 24, 1740 - August 4, 1799) was a British sculptor.
Bacon first attempted working in marble in about 1763, and during the course of his early efforts in this art was led to improve the method of transferring the form of the model to the marble (technically "getting out the points") by the invention of a more perfect instrument for the purpose.
This instrument possessed many advantages; it was more exact, took a correct measurement in every direction, was contained in a small compass, and could be used on either the model or the marble.

 Francis Bacon & John Dee
Bacon became well aware that it was necessary to be very careful while advancing his scientific ideas to James and that any trace of Dee's weird angelic-alchemical study could jeopardize his own projects from taking hold.
Bacon's observation of the mis-treatment bestowed upon Dee by James served to reinforce that it was a different era and that the need to practice that Shakespeare maxim, "Discretion is the better part of valor" was imperative to anyone with a sweet disposition toward magic and mathematics or a secret society.
Bacon's avoidance of mathematics and Copernican theory might have been because he regarded mathematics as too closely associated with Dee and his 'conjuring' and Copernicus as to closely associated with Bruno and his extreme Egyptian and magical religion.

The sculptor John Bacon Junior received his initial training under his illustrious father, John Bacon RA, before going to the Royal Academy Schools at the age of 12 years old.
Bacon Jun became a prolific and successful sculptor, perhaps too successful, and his later work tended to the formulaic, before he more or less retired in about 1830.
However, at his best, Bacon Jun is very good indeed, and his large output, especially of monuments for churches and cathedrals, means it is easy to become acquainted with his work.

With its reluctance to offer President Bush the deference he deserves in choosing his judiciary branch nominees, the Democrats are a party in denial of its minority status and hell-bent on maintaining that status for the foreseeable future.
If it weren’t so obvious, then perhaps it wouldn’t be so amusing to see the contorted twisting and conniving that goes on among the liberal anointed elite — so many of whom are United States senators — in order to redefine and obfuscate the concept of “Judicial Activism” in supreme doublespeak fashion.
The juxtaposition of abject idiocy and self-important prancing of the committee against the staid concentration of Roberts was overwhelming.

John Deakin (1912-1972) is probably recognized more as the subject of a portrait by Lucian Freud than for his own distinguished work as a photographer.
He took the definitive portrait of the young Francis Bacon, filling the frame with Bacon's face, making its natural pudginess look like the onset of an allergic reaction and revealing a pulse of fear behind Bacon's confrontational gaze.
NOTE: John Deakin (1912-1972)'s portraits are among the most significant (and amongst the most overlooked) in the history of twentieth-century photography.
