John C. McGinley (born August 3, 1959 in New York City, New York) is an American actor, producer, and writer.
McGinley studied acting at Syracuse University, and later at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
While working as John Turturro's understudy in John Patrick Shanley's 1984 production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea he was noticed by a casting scout, which led to an audition for the role of Sergeant Red O'Neill in the Oscar winning Platoon, although his first movie role was Alan Alda's Sweet Liberty (1986).

The cast is excellent with John Cusack, Ray Liotta, John C. McGinley, and John Hawkes playing their roles to perfection.
However, I was confident that John Cusack and James Mangold wouldn't be attracted to a film that wasn't smart or at least somewhat intelligent.
I think at the time I found out about it, only John Cusack and the director, James Mangold were attached and I remember thinking how interesting that was.
