Capitalizing on the success of ABC-TV's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire", ABC.com (http://abc.go.com), the official Web site of the ABC Television Network, has to date garnered three million players for its online version of the game, with almost 300,000 reaching the "Millionaire" winner's page since its launch on Sunday, Nov. 7.
ABC'S "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" made history again last Friday when 31-year-old John Carpenter, an Internal Revenue Service employee from Hamden, Connecticut, won $1 million, the largest one-time cash prize in the history of American television (excluding lotteries).
This is also a record for "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" worldwide, as no contestant in any of the countries where "Millionaire" airs has ever won the top prize in their local currency.
