Far and away, my favorite character of the series, and not just because he gets all the women (keeping them, however, seems to be a different story).
Most of the characters arrive on the show and establish their position immediately; we see Mark, or Doug, or Peter and immediately recognize them as respected persons of authority.
Poor Carter, he couldn't get away from the women even if he tried.

And as for Carter that commonplace was proved wrong by the writers because he feels intensely his fatherood, he is moved, excited and enraptured.
Sherry Stringfield, Mehki Pfiffer and Maura Tierney were at the admit desk of the set of ER, and Sherry asked "where is Carter?", and then pointed at the TV in the ER, on which was Noah, and the camera then zoomed out to show he was with Owen and Tracy, all waving at the camera.
So every time Wyle's Dr. John Carter character gets a phone call from his sweetie in Africa, or pants after the willowy Wendall, or glances at the pill bottles that have seduced him in the past, I wonder if this is Carter's exit door.
